Dol Guldur was a dreadful stronghold of Sauron in the south of Mirkwood, where he dwelt in secret as the Necromancer, until discovered by the Wise. Thráin II, king of the Durin's folk and father of Thorin Oakenshield was imprisoned in the Dungeons of Dol Guldur and the last of the Seven Rings of Dwarves was taken from him by Sauron. When the White Council finally assaulted Dol Guldur, Sauron had been long prepared and withdrew to Mordor where he started rebuilding the Dark Tower, but the Nazgûl soon returned to reclaim Dol Guldur.

If you like my Tolkien-related art, look at my related journal or gallery folder.
But you can find even more of my pictures on my website Angrenost.cz. It's in Czech, but you can still look over the gallery of illustrations. Enjoy! :-)

I have heard the White Council attack on Dol Guldur will be shown in one of The Hobbit films.

There are rumours that the second or third Peter Jackson Hobbit film will feature the battle of Dol Guldur. If so then I really hope it looks like this.

Thanks for your comment! :-) Dol Guldur was seen briefly in the first film and though it looked differently, I was happy to see some similarities. I wonder how much of Dol Guldur will they show in the other films. :-)
