Elves in Andunie by neral85 Elves in Andunie by neral85
Andúnië was an important city and port in the realm of Númenor, located on the Bay of Andúnië on the western end of the island. the name Andúnië means "sunset" in Quenya. Lord of Andúnië was a title of the lords of the shoreland region of Andúnië; descended from Tar-Elendil, the fourth King of Númenor, and ancestors of the Kings of Gondor and of Arnor.
Though not the capital, Andúnië was initially the largest city of Númenor because the Elves of Tol Eressëa would often visit the haven. King Tar-Minastir built a high tower on a hill called Oromet near Andúnië, where he could spend many days gazing westward to Tol Eressëa.

pencil, soft pastel and watercolour pencils

Here you can see an elven ship which just arrived to the port, and the Lord of Andúnië (accompanied by two Númenorean ladies) is welcoming the elf captian.

I made this picture for the Big LotR contest Between the lines of three Tolkien-themed groups :iconthelotrclub:, :iconelves-of-tolkien: and :iconarda-inspired:.

This piece is also for sale on my Etsy shop: [link]

If you like my Tolkien-related art, look at my related journal or gallery folder.
But you can find even more of my pictures on my website Angrenost.cz. It's in Czech, but you can still look over the gallery of illustrations. Enjoy! :-)

It's amazing how many details all your beautiful pictures have! The backgrounds especially are absolutely breathtaking. Do you usually use references for them?

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you like my picture. :-)
I use various references for landscape and architecture, though I think int this case I didn't use much, because I had already practiced this "Númenorean" style in other pictures, so I had quite a clear idea how it should look. :-)

Númenor reminds me of Atlantis, so in a way antique outfits fit that image. But then again Tolkien's stories shouldn't be allegories of anything, but an alternate history to this world, in his own words. Either case, it's great to see someone drawing Númenor, there isn't many pictures of that!

Certainly the story of Númenor is similar to the legend of Atlantis. But I don't view Tolkien's stories as allegories, I just take some inspiration from real-world cultures when drawing illustration. I imagine Númenorean culture, architecture and fashion somehow similar to ancient civilizatiion such as Greece, Rome or even Egypt, as opposed to more medieval-like Third Age... :-)
Yes, the pictures of Númenor certainly aren't very numerous, which I try to amend a little bit. ;-)
