Ship-kings of Gondor by neral85 Ship-kings of Gondor by neral85
The Ship-kings is a title given to the great King Tarannon Falastur and his three successors: Eärnil I, Ciryandil and Hyarmendacil I. The Ship-kings did much to expand Gondor's naval and military might. Between them, they enormously extended the South-kingdom's control over the southern lands of Middle-earth, including the lands west of the Mouths of Anduin, and as far south as the Haven of Umbar and the Harad.

Tarannon Falastur, the twelfth king of Gondor (and his infamous queen Berúthiel)
Earnil I, the thirteenth king of Gondor
Ciryandil, the fourteenth king of Gondor
Hyarmendacil, the fifteenth king of Gondor

You may also look at the early kings of Gondor from the beginning ot the Third Age, before the time of the Ship-kings.

If you like my Tolkien-related art, look at my related journal or gallery folder.
But you can find even more of my pictures on my website Angrenost.cz. It's in Czech, but you can still look over the gallery of illustrations. Enjoy! :-)

It's wonderful to see the monarchs of Gondor at the zenith of their power. Obviously, we usually only witness Gondor in the waning of its glory, and its easy to forget that the South Kingdom almost rivalled Numenor for its grandiosity and splendour (okay, maybe I exaggerate a little here but you get my point - Gondor WAS a world power at one stage, far more so than Arnor). In any case, with these four portraits, be they separate or con-joined, you capture this all magnificently. My favourite has to be Tarannon - he just looks so noble and proud, a perfect Gondorian nobleman. His Queen looks suitably nonplussed, also ;) Lovely.

Thanks! Yes, it is good to remember the days of the great power of Gondor, it truly was a world power in the time of the Ship-kings.
I think Tarannon Falastur is my own favourite too, perhaps because of the queen and the story the picture tells. :-) By the way, I've been working on follow-up pictures for some time, so there will be more of this series.
